The Kansas City book tour stop was a whirlwind: A nine-hour drive each way, Thanksgiving with family in Lawrence, TV spots on two different days, AND a book party!
The first TV spot was on KCLive the day before Thanksgiving. I love that show, I’d been on it last spring when for the launch of the second Parenting Tweets book, so I was a total pro 😉 But here was the really cool part; I got to meet Gillian Freakin’ Flynn! Yes, Gone Girl author, Gillian Flynn is from the area so she was in town to see family and appear at KC’s tree lighting ceremony. Now, I had no idea what Gillian looked like, but when she came into the green room, suddenly the show booker and the show host where in there, clearly fangirling, while I was scanning the room, desperately searching for a clue. She had a book in her lap (her latest, called The Grownup) and it looked like it said Gillian Flynn on it, but I wasn’t about the make an ass out of myself if it wasn’t her. FINALLY someone mentioned Gone Girl.
She was very sweet and we bonded over the fact that neither of us can remember the name of people we have JUST MET (sorry, other gal that was on after us). We even got a book selfie together:
And here is the clip from KCLive which was lots of fun, this guy is great!
The party was held the Saturday after Thanksgiving by my friends Ann and Emily at their home near Overland Park, KS and the weather was utter CRAP. Icy roads, cold, just generally awful. I was thrilled to see a few local writer friends who had braved the roads: Karen from the blog The21stCenturySAHM, Becky Blades, author of Do Your Laundry or You’ll Die Alone and Jen Mann author of all things throat-punchy.
On the way to the party we stopped at the Oak Park Mall Barnes and Noble, where they had a LOAD of books, and I signed every last one of ‘em!
Until next time!
