MILWAUKEE, December 12, 2015—The one thing that everyone agrees on is that it is really hot here. “Hot” is relative, I realize. But for mid-December in Milwaukee, 61F is practically beach weather — except for the wind. Chicago might be the Windy City, but the afternoon I flew in, Milwaukee was doing its best to usurp the title. I’m not a white-knuckle flyer, but … the tiny puddle-jumper I hopped from Chicago into Milwaukee just got blown around like a dried leaf on a a crisp day.
See how tiny the plane was? I’m amazed the winds off Lake Michigan didn’t blow us clear over to Minneapolis!
Fortunately, this Aussie guy sitting next to me from Kohler (the kitchen and bath fixtures manufacturer) just kept talking about faucets and sinks and toilets to get my mind off of the bouncing-bouncing-bouncing plane. If I ever get to remodel my bathroom, I know just where to go for fixtures! Bonus: Mr. Kohler has three kids. I know what HIS wife is getting for Christmas!
Naturally, I was in not-so-frozen-but-very-windy Milwaukee for another fab #BoogieWipesTour party. This one courtesy of my Oberlin College friends Carla and Anthony. Carla writes the wonderful blog, Grumpy For No Reason. But they’re not grumpy tonight! Know why Anthony and Carla look so happy?
Because their “minions,” Jesse (left) and Nick, have me surrounded!
Now the bonds of college friendship are clearly super-strong because Carla and Anthony are in the middle of a top to bottom home renovation … and they still let me camp out on their sofa … and invited their friends over for an epic book party. Let me just say that in her brand new galley kitchen, Carla whipped up some seriously ah-may-zing food. Isn’t that kitchen gorgeous?!? And the food — DELICIOUS!
I pretty much stayed on the non-business side of the counter while she worked her magic since my talents in the kitchen pretty much amount to scorching stuff. No matter. Whilst Carla baked bread (she baked BREAD!) and cheesy spinach pastries, I busied myself loading up the goody bags with all manner of Boogie Wipes products.
And did you hear? We just added two new sponsors! Milwaukee party-goers were the first to receive coconut soap from Dr. Woods and Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip Cookies from Mommies Munchies. (OMG! Those cookies! Absolutely delicious!)
Most adorable moment: When I stood up to read from our book, Jesse, who could not remember my name, simply dubbed me “Miss Awesome Lady.” I am absolutely hiring this girl for our press team!
Most bizarre moment: Coming through the totally deserted security checkpoint at Milwaukee’s airport on my way home …
… and seeing THIS SIGN. I SO want a “recombobulation area” in my house!
Most Facebook-worthy moment: Joining hosts Molly and Tiffany on WMJ4’s The Morning Blend to talk about Science of Parenthood and why humor is an essential survival tool for parents!
